Working with a team at the 2012 Hacking Health Hackathon in Toronto, Canada, we came up with a healthcare app targeted at men who were recovering from prostate surgery. Over the course of a weekend we teamed up with a urologic oncologist to design an app to help track the recovery of patients. Many patients are too embarrassed or afraid to go for checkups after surgery and this app was designed to allow them to enter health information safely and privately from their mobile app. The app would connect to an EHR, allowing the providers to review the patient’s progress and call them in if there were any warning signs. This way patients and providers could avoid unnecessary appointments, saving both money and time. The app also allowed patients and providers to communicate directly within it.
The app won the award for Best Consumer Application
